Holiday Schedule

Last updated: October 7, 2026

Western Waste observes six holidays each year. When one falls on a weekday, that day's pickups and every pickup after it that week move one day later, so Friday pickups move to Saturday. This is the holiday schedule referred to in Article XVII of our Standard Terms and Conditions.

Holidays We Observe

  • New Year's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

How Pickups Move

  • Holiday on a weekday: no pickups that day. Pickups for the holiday and each later day that week move one day later. Friday pickups move to Saturday.
  • Days before the holiday: pickups run on their normal days.
  • Holiday on a Saturday or Sunday: service runs on its normal schedule. We don't close on a nearby weekday.
  • Next week: your normal schedule resumes.
  • Six-day-a-week service: we skip only the pickup on the holiday itself, including a holiday that falls on a Saturday. Your other pickups that week stay on their normal days.

Holiday Week Tips

  • Have your container accessible by the start of your new pickup day.
  • Holiday weeks often bring extra trash. If you expect more than your container holds, call us ahead to schedule an extra pickup and avoid overage fees.
  • A pickup that moves for a holiday isn't a missed pickup (Article II of our Standard Terms and Conditions).

Weather and Other Delays

Severe weather, road closures and other events outside our control can also delay pickups (Article XVI). When that happens, we'll pick up as soon as it's safe.
